Maccabi Tel Aviv have begun preliminary talks about signing Stelios Andreou, the 23-year-old Cyprus national team center back. According to club sources, the Israeli champions have already started checking whether a move for him is feasible as they look to strengthen and refresh their defense with a high-potential defender.
Andreou currently plays for Widzew Łódź and is under contract until 2029. He is valued at about 2 million euros by Transfermarkt. A transfer would require Maccabi to buy him out of his deal, making the move complicated and expensive.
Andreou has 120 appearances in the Belgian league, all of them with Charleroi, which is part of why he is considered one of Cyprus’s leading defenders. The report says several other clubs are also interested, and that any deal would demand major effort because of his age, résumé and transfer fee.
The article notes that Cyprus has already supplied the Israeli league with one major foreign player last season, Loizos Loizou, and that Andreou could be another strong name on Maccabi’s radar. His market value has dropped sharply over the past year, but he may still attract multiple clubs across Europe. Maccabi’s most expensive signing last season was Kerwin Andrade for 1.8 million euros, ahead of Helio Varela at 1.7 million and Ion Nicolaescu at 1.3 million.
