Portuguese Defender Joao Goncalves Set to Join Hapoel Ramat Gan
Hapoel Ramat Gan is reportedly set to strengthen its defense by signing Portuguese defender Joao Goncalves, according to Portuguese media on July 2, 2026. Goncalves, 26, is expected to join the newly promoted Israeli Premier League club as a free agent after his contract with Vizela, a Portuguese club, expired. He is versatile, capable of playing both right and left center-back positions, and occasionally as a defensive midfielder.
Goncalves began his professional career at Tondela before moving to Vizela, where he made 16 appearances in Portugal's second division last season. If the transfer is finalized, Goncalves will be Hapoel Ramat Gan's sixth signing this season, following Maxim Plakuschenko, Amit Tzur, Idan Barness, Ofek Ovadia, and Daniel Tishler, the latter joining on loan from Maccabi Tel Aviv.
