Israel and US Prepare for Possible New Conflict with Iran, Lebanese Report Claims
The Lebanese newspaper Al-Akhbar, affiliated with Hezbollah, reported on Wednesday that the United States and Israel are already preparing for a potential new round of conflict with Iran. According to the report, a European security source described the current situation as a "pause for regrouping" by Washington and Jerusalem rather than a permanent resolution. The Pentagon has reportedly instructed the US Central Command and military intelligence to enhance cooperation with Israel, develop a new target list, and formulate a different operational approach in anticipation of further hostilities.
The source explained that the American strategy aims to "break the adversary" either in a single campaign or through multiple consecutive operations. The Trump administration agreed to the recent memorandum of understanding recognizing that the previous round of conflict did not fully achieve its objectives and that continued fighting was undermining US influence in the region. Washington has chosen to grant Iran calculated concessions within defined limits to halt escalation while preserving the option to renew military pressure later.
Al-Akhbar portrays the memorandum not as a stable agreement but as a tactical ceasefire within a broader confrontation involving the US, Israel, and Iran. The report aligns with the newspaper's recent narrative that Tehran views the deal as an American attempt to impose responsibility on Iran for other arenas, particularly Lebanon and Hezbollah. The paper also claims Iran is facing an "American maneuver," with Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon becoming a key element of the pressure applied on Tehran.
