Car Bombings Surge to Record Highs Across Israel in June Amid Rising Violence
A sharp and unprecedented increase in car bombings has been recorded across Israel this June, marking a record month for such incidents tied to criminal activity. Since the start of June, eight vehicles have exploded in various locations including Holon, Jaffa, Kiryat Gat, Nesher, Kiryat Haim, Wadi Ara on Road 65, and the Negev on Road 40, spanning from the north to the south of the country. These attacks have resulted in eight fatalities this month alone, comprising seven men and one woman from both Arab and Jewish communities.
This surge is significant compared to the first five months of 2026, during which only six car bombings occurred. Overall, 14 vehicles have been targeted in criminal explosions throughout the year so far. The first half of 2026 has also seen a total of 141 murders within the Arab society, representing a 16% increase compared to last year's record levels of violence. Across all communities, 168 people have been killed in the past six months.
Despite the alarming rise in violent incidents, National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir has not visited any of the car bombing sites or shooting scenes. Meanwhile, the ongoing violence continues unabated, with recent reports highlighting a particularly deadly 24-hour period that saw five murders and a low investigation clearance rate of just 4.5% since the beginning of the year. The Tel Aviv district commander has declared the situation in the Arab sector a "national emergency."
