Senior Shas Rabbi Condemns Harsh Remarks Against IDF Chief of Staff

Rabbi Moshe Maya, the senior member of the Shas Council of Torah Sages, issued a strong letter on Tuesday condemning extreme statements made against IDF Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir. The remarks Rabbi Maya addressed were made by Rabbi Aryeh Yazdi during a protest rally in Bnei Brak the previous evening, where harsh language was directed at Zamir.

Rabbi Maya expressed deep regret over the comments, emphasizing that such speech is not in line with Torah values. He highlighted that the Torah tradition involves praying for the success and safety of soldiers who risk their lives for the people of Israel, both during Torah scroll dedications and on Sabbaths and weekdays.

He concluded his letter by invoking the principle that "her ways are ways of pleasantness and all her paths are peace," affirming his respect for the Torah and its scholars as well as his appreciation for the soldiers. Rabbi Maya’s statement serves as a call for respectful discourse and support for the IDF amid ongoing tensions.
