Suspected Driver Attempts to Run Over Police Officer at Tel Aviv Checkpoint, Passenger Shot and Injured
Late Monday night, during a routine police vehicle inspection at a checkpoint on Salameh Street in Tel Aviv, officers signaled a suspicious car carrying three individuals to stop. Instead of complying, the driver allegedly accelerated towards one of the officers and fled the scene. The officer, fearing for his life, jumped onto the vehicle and fired shots at the driver. Despite the gunfire, the car escaped.
Minutes later, police received a report of a shooting victim found a few streets away. Medical sources confirmed the injured individual was a Palestinian Authority resident illegally present in Israel, who sustained moderate injuries and was hospitalized. Shortly after, the abandoned vehicle was located without any occupants.
Large police forces continue searching for the driver and two other suspects while collecting evidence at the scene. Authorities currently believe the incident has a criminal motive.
