Tel Aviv Police Shoot at Vehicle After Attempted Officer Run-Over
A rare incident unfolded on Monday night in southern Tel Aviv when a vehicle carrying three suspects tried to ram a police officer and break through a checkpoint on Salameh Street. During a routine police operation, officers signaled the suspicious vehicle to stop for inspection. The driver refused, accelerated directly toward an officer, and then fled the scene at high speed.
The officer, perceiving an immediate life threat, jumped onto the accelerating vehicle in an attempt to prevent being hit and fired his personal weapon at the fleeing car. Although the vehicle escaped initially, police soon received a report of a shooting victim found a few blocks from the scene. Preliminary investigation revealed the injured individual was an illegal resident from the West Bank, who sustained moderate injuries and was taken to hospital under police guard.
Police forces later located the abandoned vehicle without any occupants. Extensive searches and operational activities are ongoing to locate the two other suspects who fled the vehicle. Authorities emphasized that the incident was criminal in nature.
