Father of Fallen Israeli Soldier Confronts Finance Minister Over Hostage Return Policies
At a cornerstone laying ceremony for 1,000 new homes in Kibbutz Ein HaShlosha, Il Eshel, father of the late observer Roni Eshel who was killed at Nahal Oz on October 7, confronted Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich. Il Eshel accused Smotrich of voting against measures that could have prevented hostages from returning in coffins, saying, "Hostages came back in coffins because you voted against." When Smotrich responded, "I love you," Eshel retorted, "If you loved me, you would have protected Roni, Roni burned in the command center." The bereaved father further demanded a state commission of inquiry, stating, "There will be no revival here until there is a state investigation committee."
