Enzo Maresca Appointed Manchester City Head Coach Following Guardiola's Departure

Manchester City officially announced the appointment of Enzo Maresca as their new head coach. The Italian, regarded as one of Pep Guardiola's most prominent protégés, returns to the Etihad Stadium after previously serving as Guardiola's assistant and managing the club's reserve team. Maresca signed a three-year contract and will take charge starting from the upcoming season. The club believes his deep familiarity with City's system and playing style will ensure a smooth transition.

Maresca faces the significant challenge of continuing Guardiola's remarkable legacy and maintaining Manchester City's status among the top teams in English and European football. Maresca began his managerial career at Parma and later coached Leicester City, leading them back to the Premier League. In summer 2024, he became Chelsea's head coach, guiding them to victories in the UEFA Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup. However, inconsistent league results led to his resignation in January, with reports already linking him as Guardiola's successor at City.

As a player, Maresca had a distinguished career, featuring for Juventus, Fiorentina, and Sevilla, winning domestic and international titles including the Serie A championship and two UEFA Cups. He made 167 Serie A appearances and 135 La Liga appearances, also representing Italy at all youth levels.

Pep Guardiola departed Manchester City last Sunday after a decade in charge, during which he secured 20 trophies including six Premier League titles, three FA Cups, five League Cups, and one UEFA Champions League title.
