Enzo Maresca Appointed Manchester City Head Coach After Guardiola Era

Manchester City officially announced on Monday the appointment of Enzo Maresca as their new head coach. The 46-year-old Italian signed a three-year contract and will succeed Pep Guardiola, who concluded a decade of success with the club last summer. Maresca is no stranger to the Etihad Stadium, as this marks his third tenure at Manchester City. Previously, he coached the club's reserve team and served as Guardiola's assistant during the historic treble-winning 2022/23 season.

Since then, Maresca led Leicester City back to the Premier League and managed Chelsea, where he won the UEFA Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup before departing earlier this year. Upon signing, Maresca expressed enthusiasm about returning to a club he knows well, praising its innovative and precise management. He emphasized his eagerness to work with the players and to embrace the pressure that comes with representing Manchester City.

Club chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak highlighted Maresca's personality, passion, and intelligence as key factors in his selection, noting that the coach inherits a squad and organization well-suited to his football style. Maresca faces the challenge of following Guardiola, who led City to 20 trophies in ten years, including six Premier League titles and a historic Champions League victory as part of the treble.
