Court Sentences Stepmother to 8.5 Years for Sexual Abuse of Minor Stepson
The Nazareth District Court sentenced a woman to 8.5 years in prison for committing severe and repeated sexual offenses against her minor stepson, alongside charges of violence and obstruction of justice. The woman was also given suspended sentences and ordered to pay the victim 75,000 shekels in compensation. Due to the sensitivity of the case, identifying details of those involved have been withheld.
The court delayed the prison sentence until September to allow the woman, who is currently in advanced pregnancy, to give birth outside of incarceration. The conviction followed a plea deal based on a revised indictment filed by Attorney Tal Glem from the Northern District Prosecutor's Office. The woman admitted to abusing the boy from the age of 11 and a half for over four years.
The prosecution highlighted that the woman exploited the trust and dependency inherent in their relationship to commit the offenses. The court emphasized the gravity of the harm caused within the family setting, noting the woman showed no compassion or humanity toward her stepson and ignored his resistance and refusal. The ruling underscored that sexual offenses against minors within families require severe punishment to reflect the damage caused, protect children, and deter potential offenders.
