With a New Hamburg Hat and Tallit, Ramat HaSharon’s Rabbi Is Inaugurated
Three weeks after being elected to the post, the inauguration ceremony for Rabbi Yitzchak Edelstein as the chief rabbi of Ramat HaSharon took place last Tuesday. The event was held at the city’s large Ashkenazi synagogue. The new rabbi donned a new Hamburg hat for the ceremony, wrapped himself in a new tallit, and recited the Shehecheyanu blessing.
The inauguration of Rabbi Yitzchak Edelstein as rabbi of Ramat HaSharon drew the participation of many rabbis and public figures, including his rosh yeshiva, Rabbi Baruch Dov Poverסקי, Rabbi Shrage Steinman, Israel’s Chief Rabbi Kalman Meir Ber, former Chief Rabbi Israel Meir Lau, and others.
The tenure of Rabbi Yitzchak Edelstein as the city’s rabbi is a continuation of a distinguished family line in the city, which began with his grandfather, Rabbi Tzvi Yehuda Edelstein, of blessed memory, and continued with his father, Rabbi Yaakov Edelstein, of blessed memory, who served in the role for more than 60 years.
The speakers at the ceremony emphasized the rabbi’s suitability for the position, both because of his great virtues and blessed work, and because he is descended from the city’s rabbis since its founding. In remarks by Israel’s Chief Rabbi Kalman Meir Ber, who signed the appointment letter, he said: “My friend Rabbi Yitzchak, scion of a distinguished rabbinic dynasty, a Torah scholar of stature whose mind is with people. Through his deeds and activities, he has merited and will merit sanctifying God’s name in his city. May it be His will that he continue in his work and mission for many long years.”
The musical portion was handled by singer Uziyel Deitch and keyboardist Ari Kuritz. The event was produced by Yitzhak Stein, Shechakim Productions.
