Rabbi Yishai Eliahu Halleli Unanimously Elected as Emmanuel's Town Rabbi
Emmanuel's local rabbinical election committee announced on Monday, after the votes were counted, that Rabbi Yishai Eliahu Halleli had been unanimously chosen as the local town rabbi. The committee was headed by retired Supreme Rabbinical Court member Rabbi Yitzhak Zr and included Rabbi David Twill, Moshe Rothstein, Ezra Gershi, Yunit Gisפן, secretary Tzuri Porat, and attorney Inbal Cohen from the legal division.
The appointment is part of the Religious Services Ministry's policy of making permanent appointments for city rabbis across Israel, which the ministry says is important for stable Torah leadership. The ministry described the move as a significant step for Emmanuel's residents.
Halleli lives in Emmanuel and studied at Yekirei Yerushalayim and Chazon Ovadia yeshivas. He is considered a disciple of Sephardi Chief Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef, who heads the Council of Torah Sages. He also studied halacha at the Avir Yaakov kollel in Emmanuel, received rabbinic ordination from the Chief Rabbinate of Israel, and holds certification to serve as a city rabbi.
He currently serves as the official in charge of kashrut and marriages in Emmanuel, as well as a rabbi and halachic authority in the town's Sephardi community. Ministry director-general Yehuda Avidan thanked Rabbi Yitzhak Zr, local council head Rabbi Eliahu Gafni, and the religious council chairman, Ofer Shmechi, and congratulated Halleli, saying the orderly and professional process led by former Religious Services Minister MK Michael Malchieli had brought the appointment to completion.
