Israeli Man Attacked and Car Stolen After Entering West Bank Area A for Shopping
On Saturday night, an Israeli man in his 70s from the Sharon region was assaulted and had his vehicle stolen near Qalqilya after entering Area A of the West Bank on foot to buy groceries. Police from the Ariel station in the Samaria district responded to the scene near the Eliyahu crossing, where the man was found with injuries to his legs. He reported being attacked by several suspects who threw him onto the road and stole his car. The victim was taken to the hospital for medical treatment, and a police investigation has been launched.
This incident highlights the dangers and legal prohibitions against Israelis entering Area A, which is under Palestinian Authority control. Such entries pose serious risks to personal safety. Just a month earlier, six Israelis were rescued by police and civil administration forces after renting a villa in Jericho and attracting attention due to their Hebrew shouting. On the same day as the Qalqilya attack, 23 deaf-mute Israelis were also evacuated from Nablus after visiting friends there.
The Samaria police district and security agencies continue to emphasize that entering Area A is illegal and life-threatening. These recent cases underscore the ongoing security risks for Israelis who enter these areas despite the prohibitions.
