US Military Strikes Multiple Iranian Targets Near Strait of Hormuz After Oil Tanker Attack
The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed that US forces conducted additional airstrikes against multiple targets in Iran near the Strait of Hormuz overnight between Sunday and Monday. These strikes were ordered by the US president in response to an attack on a commercial oil tanker carrying over two million barrels of crude oil near the strategic waterway.
According to CENTCOM, the recent US strikes targeted Iranian military surveillance infrastructure, communication systems, air defense sites, drone storage facilities, and naval mine-laying capabilities. The action follows a previous US retaliation against Iran after an earlier attack on the commercial vessel Ever Given. Despite an opportunity to honor a ceasefire agreement, the US claims Iran chose to escalate tensions further.
The latest incident occurred at 04:30 Eastern Time when Iranian forces launched a one-way drone attack on the Panama-flagged oil tanker Kiko near the Strait of Hormuz. The US military emphasized that commercial shipping through the strait continues uninterrupted and that American forces in the region remain vigilant, operationally capable, and prepared for further action if necessary.
