Cabinet Secretary Says Arrests Hurt Haredi Draft Efforts, Backs Temporary Freeze
Cabinet Secretary Yossi Fox sent a letter to Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee chair Boaz Bismuth supporting a move to freeze arrests of Torah students through a temporary order. Fox argued that the arrests are pushing Haredi enlistment further away rather than helping it.
In the letter, Fox said the arrests are undermining efforts to increase Haredi recruitment to the Israel Defense Forces. He also warned that the policy is deepening the rift with the Haredi public.
Fox added a stark warning, saying the situation could lead to "tearing the rope with the Haredi public to the point, God forbid, of a civil war."
