IDF and Shin Bet kill Hamas Nukhba deputy who joined October 7 attack
The IDF and Shin Bet said they killed Walid Hania, deputy commander of a Nukhba company in Hamas’s military wing, in a joint strike two days ago, Thursday. Israeli officials said Hania was one of the commanders involved in Hamas’s October 7 assault and that he himself crossed into Israeli territory during the attack.
According to the military, Hania led the cell that infiltrated Israel and was involved in directing the kidnapping of Israeli civilians into the Gaza Strip. The IDF also said that in recent weeks he had been recruiting new operatives for the terror group and running theoretical training for the Nukhba company under his command.
The army identified Hania as a nephew of Ismail Haniyeh, the former head of Hamas’s political bureau. The strike was described by the IDF as an operation to remove an immediate threat.
Israeli security officials said IDF forces under Southern Command remain deployed in the area in line with the existing agreement and will continue acting against any threat to Israeli civilians.
