Rubio Says U.S. Will Reimburse Lebanese Army More Than $30 Million Under Framework Deal

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio issued a statement on the framework agreement signed in his presence between Israel and Lebanon, saying Washington is reaffirming its intention to strengthen the Lebanese Army’s capability and readiness.

Rubio said the Defense Department is prepared to reimburse the Lebanese Army more than $30 million under existing authorities and appropriations, in support of the president’s vision for lasting peace in Lebanon. He added that the United States will remain fully engaged and commit significant resources.

He also said the U.S. would provide immediate humanitarian aid of $100 million, coordinated with the United Nations.
