US to host Israel-Lebanon talks next week as Rubio urges Hezbollah disarmament
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun amid the ceasefire. Lebanese reports said Rubio reaffirmed Washington’s support for Beirut, while Aoun stressed the need to stop Israeli strikes through a comprehensive ceasefire.
The State Department said Rubio repeated the need to disarm Hezbollah and establish full state control over all Lebanese territory. The department also said the next meeting between Israeli and Lebanese representatives in Washington is set for June 23 to 25.
The call comes as the ceasefire remains in place and diplomatic contacts continue between the two sides under US auspices.
