The story · English

Rabbi Abraham David Kornblit, one of the oldest and best-known figures in the Lubliner Hasidic community, died today in Jerusalem at the age of 93. He was long regarded as a central, respected member of the group and remained closely connected to its leadership over many years.

Kornblit was born in Jerusalem as the eldest son of Chaya and Rabbi Moshe Leib Kornblit, described as one of the city’s important Lubliner Hasidim. In his youth he married his first wife, the daughter of Yerucham Bernstein of the Batei Horneinstein neighborhood, and after her death he remarried the daughter of Aaron Shlomo Laderman.

Throughout his life, Kornblit was an devoted Hasid and was especially close to Rabbi Moshe Mordechai of Lublin, to whom he was attached in earlier years. People who knew him in the community said that alongside his loyalty to the Hasidic court, he was also known for extraordinary dedication to Torah study and for spending all hours of the day immersed in learning until his final day.

He is survived by his only son, a granddaughter and a great-grandson. His funeral took place today, Thursday, at 1:00 p.m., departing from the Hasidim synagogue in Jerusalem’s Batei Ungarin neighborhood and proceeding to Mount of Rest, where he was buried.
