Hyundai launches cheaper, more efficient Tucson hybrid in Israel from NIS 190,000
Hyundai has begun selling in Israel the European version of the Tucson in a gasoline electric hybrid setup, alongside the longer American model, which will remain on sale. The European Tucson is 4.52 meters long, 12 cm shorter than the long model, with a 2.68 meter wheelbase, 9 cm less, and it is also 2 cm lower at 1.65 meters. Width is the same at 1.86 meters, and trunk capacity remains 616 liters. Unlike the Kia Sportage, the European Tucson’s design is very similar to the American version.
The powertrain is unchanged, with a turbocharged gasoline engine and an electric motor for a combined 230 hp, paired with a 6 speed automatic transmission. Hyundai says it reaches 100 km/h in 8.8 seconds and has a top speed of 205 km/h. Because the European version is front wheel drive rather than all wheel drive, and about 120 kg lighter, its official fuel consumption improves to 17.8 km per liter, compared with 14.5 km per liter for the longer model.
Prices are about NIS 10,000 lower than equivalent trim levels of the long version, and similar to the European Kia Sportage, starting at NIS 190,000. During the launch period, buyers will also get a NIS 4,000 discount through July 8. The basic One trim includes a 12.3 inch multimedia screen, regular instrument cluster, dual zone climate control with rear vents, rear and front parking sensors, a smart key with remote start, and an electrically operated tailgate. The Pro trim starts at NIS 210,000, and the Icon at NIS 220,000.
Safety equipment across all trims includes autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring, safe exit assist, automatic high beam, rear cross traffic alert with autonomous braking, and a child reminder system. The top two trims also add rear parking collision prevention. Hyundai says the Tucson earned five out of five stars in the European crash test in 2021. The car comes with a five year vehicle warranty, seven years for the battery, or 150,000 km. Since 2006, 92,000 Tucsons have been sold in Israel, including 5,000 hybrid units this year.
