Sa'ar to seek cabinet approval for Israeli recognition of the Armenian Genocide
Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar will bring a draft resolution to the government at its next meeting that would formally recognize the Armenian Genocide. The proposal says Israel should do so out of a moral and historical duty.
The resolution states that Israel would recognize the genocide committed against the Armenian people in the late years of the Ottoman Empire. It also says the government should condemn denial, minimization, or distortion of the historical truth about those events.
After cabinet approval, the decision is also expected to be submitted to the Knesset for approval. The article does not say when the vote will take place beyond the coming government session.
