Israeli police and prosecutors filed indictments on Wednesday evening against two Palestinians arrested in separate recent cases, one involving a weapon found in a Bethlehem home and the other an alleged assault on an IDF soldier near Gush Etzion. The cases were built after police investigations established the evidentiary basis against both suspects.
In the first case, which took place earlier this month, intelligence from the Judea Arrow unit led officers to search the home of a roughly 40-year-old Bethlehem resident. Police said they found an MP5 submachine gun and additional weapons-related equipment in the house. The suspect was arrested, questioned at a police station, and his detention was extended during the investigation. He was later charged with carrying, possessing, and manufacturing a weapon.
In the second case, which occurred in recent days, an IDF soldier complained that he had been attacked near Havat Elkeren in the Gush Etzion area. Police arrested a 52-year-old resident of Beit Ummar at the scene and brought him in for questioning.
Following the investigation, prosecutors said they assembled a sufficient evidentiary foundation for the suspect’s violent conduct, and an indictment was filed against him. The article says the arrests and charges were the result of police work in two separate incidents involving weapons offenses and violence.
