State Prosecutor Amit Aisman spoke at the Haifa Law Conference at the University of Haifa and said the rule of law is tested not in moments of agreement, but in conflict and dispute. He argued that Israel's law-enforcement system, led by the State Attorney's Office, faces a dual challenge, on one hand government corruption and sensitive investigations involving powerful figures amid a technological revolution, and on the other social polarization.
Aisman said criticism of the law-enforcement system is legitimate and even welcome, but stressed that it must remain criticism and not turn into delegitimization. He also addressed a proposed law to remove the Police Internal Investigations Department, known as Machash, from the State Attorney's Office, saying, "The Machash law raises significant concern."
