Prof. Shmuel Marco, a geologist at Tel Aviv University’s School of Geophysics, spoke to Ynet Studio about the earthquakes in Venezuela. He said that a pair of earthquakes is “quite rare” and added that he has friends and colleagues there who are not answering at the moment.
Marco said his colleagues had warned that the earthquake risk was rising and that “the earthquake that happened today was exactly as they predicted.” He did not say whether there had been any response from them beyond the fact that they were currently unreachable.
Asked how prepared Israel is for earthquakes, Marco said the situation is “very far from ideal.” He added that “there is almost no country in the world that is able to be prepared for an earthquake that destroys a large city.”
