An active-duty IDF soldier was found overnight, between Wednesday and Thursday, handcuffed in the middle of the Palestinian town of Tarqumiya, west of Hebron, and was rescued by police. According to the report, police were alerted through intelligence and in coordination with Palestinian security mechanisms about a person in an IDF uniform who was tied up in the town.
Police units rushed to the scene and found the soldier with his hands bound by zip ties, surrounded by a large crowd of local residents. Officers extracted him from the area and took him to safety. The soldier was then transferred for questioning by the Military Police Criminal Investigation Division, which opened a probe into the unusual incident.
During his initial questioning at the police station in Hebron, the soldier said the incident stemmed from a criminal dispute with some local residents. He claimed the suspects took him into the Palestinian town, handcuffed him and threatened to kill him. The investigation also found that he was not armed when he was discovered in Tarqumiya.
The soldier was identified as an active-duty serviceman, and the police said the inquiry into the circumstances is continuing.
