Police arrested two suspects overnight on suspicion of making threats with a weapon during yesterday’s protest against Haredim on Route 1. The investigation began after videos circulated on social media showing two separate incidents during a vehicle convoy demonstration, raising suspicion that protesters were threatened with a gun.
According to police, the two suspects were taken in for questioning at the Harel police station. One suspect has already been questioned, his weapon was seized, and police said they will ask a court later today to extend his detention. The second suspect does not hold a firearms license and is currently being questioned over the suspicion against him.
In one of the recorded incidents, a private car driver was seen pulling out a handgun and pointing it at protesters who were standing on the roadway. The protest’s organizing committee sharply condemned the incident, saying, “This is a real threat. We call on Israel Police to act immediately and decisively against the inciters and those using violence. Enough with the violence.”
