Shane Larkin, the guard who became a symbol at Anadolu Efes and led the club to two EuroLeague titles, is reportedly on his way to Fenerbahce. According to an overnight report published between Wednesday and Thursday, he is expected to remain in Istanbul and sign a two-year deal with the Turkish champions.
The report comes after Anadolu had already reached an agreement with Crvena zvezda for Larkin to move to Belgrade, with the Turkish club covering half his salary and paying $1.9 million of the $3.8 million he was due to earn next season. Larkin refused to go to Serbia, and the article says he has now also agreed to join Fenerbahce, despite Anadolu’s reluctance to let him move to its bitter rival.
To clear the move, Larkin reportedly gave up his entire remaining salary from Anadolu. He also turned down a major offer from Dubai worth $10 million over the next two years.
Larkin missed time last season with an injury and played only 12 EuroLeague games, averaging 15.3 points and 4.2 assists. Before his successful run with Anadolu, he first appeared in EuroLeague with Baskonia in the 2016/17 season, then returned to the NBA for one season with the Boston Celtics before coming back to Europe. The report also says Valensia forward Braxton Key has reached an agreement with Fenerbahce and is expected to join coach Saras Jasikevicius’s team.
