Maccabi Tel Aviv has reopened talks with Danish guard Iffe Lundberg about a new contract, but his return is now far from certain. The discussion comes after a strong season in which he helped stabilize the team in EuroLeague play and performed well in the playoffs.
Lundberg’s market value has risen, and he is receiving interest from other EuroLeague clubs. What once looked like a potentially positive negotiation now has more question marks around it.
In the initial talks, his representatives asked for $1.6 million, and they are now demanding even more. Maccabi was prepared to offer $1.2 million, and initially expected some flexibility, but that outlook has changed as his price has climbed.
The club still wants to keep him and is happy with what he has brought. Lundberg has also said he enjoys living in Israel and being part of the team. Even so, Maccabi must weigh the fact that he is 32 years old and missed three months because of an injury, and the team is hoping it can still reach an agreement, though that is increasingly uncertain.
