Organizers of the protest convoys against the arrest of ultra-Orthodox draft evaders said they were ending the demonstration, but issued a warning that more actions could follow. In their statement, they demanded the immediate release of those detained over what they called the defense of “Torah scholars,” the end of the arrests, and the cancellation of all measures they say target yeshiva students and married religious students.
The organizers said, “We call to immediately release the detainees of the world of Torah, stop the arrests, and cancel all the decrees against yeshiva students and kollel students.” They added that if the ultra-Orthodox public’s demands do not “fall on attentive ears,” the committee will consider “additional surprising ways of action.”
The announcement marks the formal conclusion of the protest event, while leaving open the possibility of renewed demonstrations or other escalation if their demands are not met.
