  • Saint-Étienne scouts have watched Maccabi Netanya midfielder Bassam Zaroura twice.
  • Maccabi Netanya expects a transfer fee of 1.5-2 million euros.
  • Zaroura had a breakout season with 10 goals in 24 games.
  • A potential January transfer is possible if another player departs.
  • The transfer would likely involve a four-year contract.

French club AS Saint-Étienne, currently leading the second-tier Ligue 2 and aiming for promotion, has sent scouts on two occasions to observe Maccabi Netanya midfielder Bassam Zaroura. The 23-year-old Israeli-Arab player has impressed in the Israeli Premier League, where he finished last season with 10 goals in 24 appearances. Zaroura, who previously played for Maccabi Haifa's youth academy and made one senior appearance, was sold to Maccabi Netanya in August 2023 for 950,000 shekels plus a 25% sell-on clause. Maccabi Netanya is reportedly seeking a transfer fee between 1.5 and 2 million euros for Zaroura. Saint-Étienne, which already has Mahmoud Jaber on its roster, is reportedly looking for another player from the Israeli market due to Jaber's fitness issues affecting his consistent play. The French club is also considering the potential departure of Hungarian midfielder Arouna Sangante, which could accelerate Zaroura's potential move as early as January. If a transfer occurs, it is expected to be a long-term contract of four years, though negotiations are not yet at the offer stage, with the club still in the observation phase.
