IDF Soldiers Shoot Two Suspects Approaching Syrian Military Post

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on Monday identified two suspects riding a motorcycle towards an IDF post in the security zone of southern Syria. Soldiers initiated a suspect apprehension procedure, which included firing at the individuals. Both suspects were apprehended without any casualties among the Israeli forces.

In a separate incident reported by the IDF, during an operation by the Carmeli Brigade in southern Syria the previous day, forces cleared the security area of old regime military equipment. They discovered three anti-tank mines and two additional mines.

Following these events, Uri Kelner, head of the Golan Regional Council, and Yehuda Doa, head of the Katzrin Local Council, issued a joint statement. They described the two incidents within 24 hours as a serious warning sign that cannot be ignored, noting a recurring phenomenon that requires decisive action and long-term security solutions. They emphasized the need to avoid complacency and a return to pre-October 7th security concepts, urging the state to continue strengthening security in the Golan settlements, Katzrin, and Druze villages, alongside the IDF's ongoing operations in the Syrian theater.

Senior Israeli officials have conveyed that a message has been received following a recent strike deep within Syria. They are calling on party leaders and future government officials to commit to enhancing security in the Golan and allocate the necessary resources, including maintaining the buffer zone and the Hermon cordon. The officials stressed that the security of Golan and Katzrin residents should not depend on temporary calm and that they deserve the same level of security provided to all Israeli citizens.
