The pious and esteemed woman, Mrs. Shoshana Rosa Zomer, widow of the veteran Hasid Rabbi Tzvi Halevi Zomer, a prominent figure in Jerusalem, passed away on Monday at an advanced age. She was known for her unwavering support of her husband, a respected elder among the Vizhnitz Hasidim. Together, they raised their children in Torah, piety, and Hasidism, maintaining a home in Jerusalem that was a symbol of devotion and adherence to Jewish tradition. Her late husband composed the well-known Vizhnitz Hasidic melody based on the verse "You shall be wholehearted with the Lord your God."
Mrs. Zomer's life was marked by significant suffering, which she bore with exceptional grace and acceptance of divine will. Over two decades ago, she lost her daughter, Mrs. Weiss, a tragedy she and her husband faced with profound faith, famously stating, "Satan wants us to be angry at God now, let's show him we are not angry." Following her husband's death, the family endured further loss with the passing of their son, Rabbi Keterel Saul Halevi Zomer, who served as a spiritual supervisor at the Vizhnitz Yeshiva in Bnei Brak. She continued to be a source of strength and faith for her descendants through these trials, and even after the passing of her daughter-in-law, the wife of her son Rabbi Meir.
Despite these hardships, she lived to see her descendants, including a fifth generation, follow the path of tradition. She is survived by her son Rabbi Meir Zomer, a leader among the Vizhnitz-Skulen Hasidim, and her daughters, who are married to prominent rabbis and Torah scholars. The funeral procession departed from the Shagar Funeral Home in Jerusalem on Monday at 3:00 PM, proceeding to the Har HaMenuchot cemetery, where she will be laid to rest beside her husband and son.
