Widow of Capt. Uri Shani Marries His Former Commander

Miriam Shani, who lost her husband, Capt. Uri Shani, on October 7, married Ophik on Tuesday evening. Ophik had commanded Uri during their training track in the Egoz unit. The wedding was shared publicly, including emotional footage of Ophik speaking under the wedding canopy, courtesy of the family.

Uri Shani’s bereaved father, Yehoshua Shani, also took part in the ceremony and was seen blessing the couple with the traditional words, “Simcha t’samach.” The family said the moment was deeply moving because Ophik had served as Uri’s commander.

At the couple’s engagement, Yehoshua Shani said the relationship between them reflected “an emotional connection that continues the path, the values and the deep camaraderie that existed between them.” He added that the family believes Uri would have been happy with them in that moment, and that he is “supporting and accompanying [them] from above.”
