A Washington Wizards fan gained significant online attention for altering a Deni Avdija jersey to feature the name and number of new team acquisition Deandre Ayton. The fan's jersey, originally Avdija's number 9, was modified to read 'Ayton 8'. The image of the altered jersey was posted on the Sleeper Wizards social media account and garnered hundreds of thousands of views.
Deandre Ayton himself acknowledged the viral post, sharing it on his X (formerly Twitter) account. This marked Ayton's first post on the platform since Christmas 2024. Ayton, who previously played alongside Avdija in Portland, responded to the fan by stating, "We gotta get you right. Let’s get you a jersey and to a game." The Wizards made several offseason signings, including Ayton, a former first-round draft pick, to bolster their frontcourt.
