Diego Flores Transforms Small Club Into Championship Contender

Club Atlético Ituzaingó, coached by former Maccabi Haifa manager Diego Flores, is surprising Argentina and preparing for a crucial match against Boca Juniors. The team, currently leading its league with 25 points, has secured three consecutive victories, including a decisive 4-1 win over Independiente. Ituzaingó holds a four-point lead over second-place Defensa with five games remaining in the Clausura season.

With upcoming matches against Boca Juniors and Defensa, strong performances could propel Ituzaingó to the top of Group A and potentially secure their first-ever league title. The team has already qualified for the round of 16. Flores, however, urged caution, stating, "They say we are a trendy team? There is one game at a time. Our experience against Boca Juniors doesn't matter. We want to stay calm and believe in ourselves."

Argentine sports outlet Olé noted Flores's achievement, reporting that he has turned a "tiny club into a championship contender." The team is in excellent form, and Boca Juniors reportedly fears them. Ituzaingó is also in a strong position to qualify for European competition based on their cumulative yearly table standing. La Voz highlighted the team's "crazy pace" and "exceptional firepower," which makes them difficult for opponents, and warned against excessive euphoria.
