National Information Headquarters is entering a new phase after Israel’s national information chief, Tzipi Hotovely, announced on Tuesday that Noam Shapira will become head of the National Information Headquarters. The appointment followed unanimous approval by the selection committee. The post had not been permanently filled for about 3.5 years, leaving the office in a prolonged vacuum during one of the most difficult periods for Israel’s public diplomacy front.
Shapira, 44, is married and father of five and lives in Kibbutz Merav. He brings extensive security and management experience, serving as a reserve lieutenant colonel and a veteran of Sayeret Matkal, where he held a range of command and leadership roles over the years. In recent years, and especially during what the article calls the “War of Revival,” he was heavily involved in strengthening Israel’s information and public awareness efforts across different arenas.
According to the report, Shapira led a series of initiatives within the Operations Directorate aimed at international public diplomacy, building strategic partnerships for Israel, and preserving the operational freedom of action of the IDF abroad. Hotovely praised the appointment, saying Shapira brings “management ability, strategic thinking and a deep understanding” of the world of public diplomacy after many years in the military.
She added that the head of the headquarters is a key position and expressed confidence that they would work together to strengthen Israel against current challenges. Shapira is expected to take over immediately and begin coordinating the different information bodies while developing a long-term public diplomacy strategy for Israel’s international arena.
