The Prime Minister’s Office appointments committee has selected Noam Shapira as head of the National Public Diplomacy Staff, a post that had been vacant for about three years, since January 2023. The previous head of the staff was Gadi Ezra.
Shapira is a reserve lieutenant colonel, a veteran of the elite Sayeret Matkal unit, and works as an engineering technician and educator. The appointment fills a senior communications and advocacy role that had remained open throughout the vacancy.
Several candidates who competed for the job and were invited to interviews claimed the tender was predetermined. They said they knew in advance that Shapira would be chosen, and that all applicants received notice of his selection 20 minutes after the meeting ended.
The Prime Minister’s Office rejected the allegations. Officials said Shapira was chosen unanimously and that he presented “very impressive qualifications.”
