Residents of Tel Aviv’s Ramat HaHayal neighborhood took part in an emotional ceremony marking the הכנסת ספר תורה, the dedication of a new Torah scroll, in memory of Staff Sgt. Ziv Chen, described in the article as a fallen IDF soldier killed in the war sparked by Hamas' October 7 attack, "Iron Swords". The scroll was donated by yeshiva students and their families, who said they invested great effort and devotion in its preparation.
The event was attended by yeshiva heads, rabbis, judges, and hundreds of local residents. The Torah scroll was brought into the synagogue of the yeshiva "Nahlat Yosef," which operates under the "Or Moshe" association, led by Rabbi Nissim Oded and educational director Binyamin Pinzel.
The institution is headed by Rabbi Yosef Shvaks, who continues the legacy of his father, Rabbi Chaim Yitzchak Shvaks. The ceremony honored Chen’s memory and also reflected the grief of a young family, as he left behind a widow and a baby he never got to know.
The event ended with a festive meal at the yeshiva hall. Attendees left deeply moved by what the article described as a grand and dignified celebration of Torah.
