Moshe Mordechai Dubdbeni, a 25-year-old resident of Elad, married father of two and a teacher in a Talmud Torah, was arrested Tuesday at a Dor Alon gas station on Route 6 and handed over to the military police. His detention prompted a protest on the highway, causing traffic disruptions in the area before traffic returned to normal shortly afterward.
The arrest comes amid several recent incidents that have stirred the ultra-Orthodox public over the detention of draft evaders and have heightened tensions over enforcement against young Haredi men. The case was reported as part of a broader wave of anger in the community about arrests connected to army service avoidance.
Separately, on Monday night, an unusual incident was documented in Bnei Brak involving a young Haredi man who was reportedly stopped after fleeing a police officer while riding an electric scooter. According to reports, he refused to identify himself because he feared being arrested for desertion.
Video from the scene showed officers bent over the man as he lay on the ground, with one officer pressing a Taser against his head. He was later released after receiving a citation. The man later said, "I was afraid to identify myself, I am a draft evader, violent police." Police comment was still pending.
