Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar sent a message on Thursday to Smit Machchar, an Indian pilot who was attacked and wounded by his co-pilot during a Flydubai flight to Israel. Sa'ar thanked the pilot for his bravery and wished him a speedy recovery.

"First of all, we are grateful for the captain's courage and heroism. By managing to open the cockpit door after being stabbed, he saved the flight and the passengers' lives," Sa'ar stated in an interview with Indian television network NDTV. He also acknowledged the bravery of Israeli passengers who subdued the co-pilot who attacked the captain, calling it "heroism upon heroism."

Sa'ar added that statistically, it was almost impossible to emerge from such a difficult situation, but Smit and the brave Israeli citizens saved the flight and its passengers. He concluded by sending a personal message to Smit, wishing him a full and rapid recovery and expressing hope for his condition to stabilize soon.
