UAE Agrees to Israeli Security Demands, Paving Way for Dubai Flights

A significant breakthrough has been reached in the effort to resume Israeli airline flights to Dubai, following the United Arab Emirates' agreement to implement additional Israeli security demands. This development is expected to soon clear the path for Israeli carriers like El Al, Israir, and Arkia to return to the Dubai route.

Since July, Israel's internal security agency, the Shin Bet, had restricted Israeli airlines from flying to the UAE due to security concerns. This restriction, however, did not affect Emirati airlines such as Flydubai and Etihad, which continued to operate flights to Israel. The disparity led to considerable anger among Israeli airlines, who cited unfair competition and warned of tens of millions of shekels in losses. The flight ban for Israeli companies was initially set to expire in October but was anticipated to be extended into November.

The recent agreement by the UAE to install additional screening machines comes in the wake of a security incident involving a Flydubai flight. Following this incident, the Prime Minister's Office announced that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had ordered enhanced security measures for both Israeli and non-Israeli airlines. The UAE's compliance with the security requests is seen as a crucial step toward normalizing air travel between the two nations.
