Israeli Firm Smart Shooter Secures Pentagon Contract for Drone Defense Systems

Israeli defense technology company Smart Shooter has announced a significant framework agreement with the Pentagon, potentially worth up to $150 million over 36 months. The contract, awarded through the Joint Interagency Task Force 401 (JIATF 401), designates Smart Shooter as the sole provider of its SMASH anti-drone systems. While the total value represents the maximum potential, the U.S. government is not obligated to purchase at this level, with specific order volumes, values, and delivery schedules to be determined through subsequent individual orders.

The SMASH systems are designed to enhance the effectiveness of small arms fire against drones. The fire control system integrates with a weapon, tracks targets, and assists the operator in timing shots to improve hit probability. The operator retains the decision to fire, and the weapon remains capable of engaging ground targets. The system can also interface with external sensors and battle management systems.

This contract falls under the Domestic Shield program and includes training and support services. Its purpose is to bolster the defense of U.S. forces and bases both domestically and abroad against threats from small unmanned aerial vehicles. JIATF 401, established in August 2025, combines capabilities from various U.S. military branches and federal law enforcement agencies to counter small drones.

Smart Shooter CEO Michal Mor stated that the agreement is a "significant milestone" in expanding the company's presence in the U.S. defense market, emphasizing the systems' role in stopping fast, small drones before they can harm critical assets. The company previously announced a contract with the same task force in March 2026. Thousands of Smart Shooter systems are reportedly already in use by U.S. military branches, with additional deployments in Israel, the UK, and Germany.
