Der'i Vows to Continue Rabbi Ovadia Yosef's Legacy Amidst Legal Battles

Shas party chairman Aryeh Der'i stated on Sunday that his party will continue to honor the legacy of Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, the late spiritual leader of the Sephardic Haredi community. Speaking at a Sukkah event hosted by Shas, Der'i asserted that neither the Attorney General nor the Supreme Court would succeed in hindering their efforts to commemorate Rabbi Yosef.

"We will not allow anyone to harm the life's work of Maran," Der'i declared, referring to Rabbi Yosef by his honorific title. "Maran is a figure whom the people of Israel admire. His persona obligates all of us to continue on his path."

Der'i quoted Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef, the current Rishon LeZion (Sephardic Chief Rabbi), stating, "If we don't make one memorial event, we will make a thousand memorial events throughout the country, in every city and every synagogue." Der'i added that on the anniversary of Rabbi Yosef's passing, they would bring large crowds to Jerusalem to honor him.

"Our message is clear: we are continuing the path of Maran, and we will ensure his light never goes out," Der'i concluded, emphasizing his party's commitment to preserving Rabbi Yosef's influence and teachings.
