Shas Party Challenges Ban on Rabbi Ovadia Yosef Legacy Event

The Shas party announced it will file an urgent appeal to the Central Elections Committee against the legal advisor's decision to prohibit a legacy event for Rabbi Ovadia Yosef. The party vehemently rejected the directive, calling it an unreasonable decision lacking legal or public justification. Shas stated, "For our master's honor, we will not be silent."

Party leaders described the decision as "outrageous" and a "blatant and defiant trampling" of the state law honoring Rabbi Yosef. This law, which passed the Knesset unanimously, was specifically enacted to preserve the legacy of the revered halachic authority for future generations. Shas emphasized that attempting to restrict or politicize an event focused on studying, honoring, and remembering a central figure in Jewish law crosses a red line.

Shas believes the ban directly harms millions of observant Jews who consider Rabbi Yosef their spiritual father. The party views the prohibition as a severe blow to traditional, observant citizens and a blatant disregard for a state law designed to commemorate his immense legacy.
