MK Tayeb Slams Legal Advisor for Canceling Rabbi Ovadia Yosef Memorial Event
Member of Knesset Yossi Tayeb of the Shas party fiercely criticized the decision by the legal advisor to cancel a memorial event for Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, the spiritual leader of Shas. Tayeb argued that the justification for the cancellation, citing potential election campaign propaganda, is unacceptable.
Speaking on 'Galei Yisrael' radio, Tayeb described the legal advisor's decision as "draconian and disproportionate," adding that the public perceives her actions as those of an opposition leader. He specifically rebuked the connection drawn between the memorial event and Shas's election campaign, stating that using Rabbi Yosef's image in campaign materials does not justify canceling a memorial for him.
Tayeb further contended that Rabbi Ovadia Yosef's influence extended beyond Shas, representing a significant figure for Israeli society as a whole. He drew a parallel to memorial events for former Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, questioning whether such events would be canceled if Rabin's image were used in political campaigns.
