Israeli Military Chief Cancels US Visit Amid Security Concerns
The Chief of Staff of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir, has canceled an upcoming visit to the United States due to the prevailing security situation in Israel. The trip, scheduled for approximately a week and a half from now, was intended to include meetings with the Commander of the U.S. Central Command and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Discussions were planned to cover bilateral military cooperation, countering Iran, and other regional security threats.
Zamir informed his American counterparts of the cancellation, stating that it would be inappropriate to leave the country and manage ongoing processes remotely while the IDF is on high alert across all sectors. An IDF official elaborated that the military cannot be placed on high alert while its chief is abroad. The decision was made independently by Zamir before Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's statement regarding an attack ahead of elections.
