Milwaukee and Miami agreed overnight on one of the biggest NBA trades in years, sending Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bobby Portis to the Heat. The deal, reported on June 23, 2026, ends a long-running saga around Antetokounmpo’s future and is set to become official on July 6, when the summer trade window opens.
Miami gets the 31-year-old Antetokounmpo, who spent 13 seasons in Milwaukee after being drafted in 2013. The Heat are also adding Portis, and they plan to pair Antetokounmpo with Bam Adebayo as they try to rejoin the East title race. The move marks another major star acquisition for team president Pat Riley.
Milwaukee receives Tyler Herro, Kel'el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kasparas Jakucionis, three first-round picks, one pick swap and one second-round pick. The draft assets include the No. 13 pick, plus unprotected first-rounders in 2031 and 2033. ESPN said Miami beat out other suitors, including Boston, which reportedly offered Jaylen Brown and two first-round picks.
The trade closes a chapter in which Antetokounmpo won two MVP awards, made 10 All-Star teams and led the Bucks to their 2021 championship, the franchise’s first in 50 years. Despite injuries limiting him to 36 games last season, he still averaged 27.6 points, 9.8 rebounds and 5.4 assists. Milwaukee is now beginning a rebuild around younger players and future draft capital.
