Milwaukee traded Giannis Antetokounmpo to the Miami Heat after reportedly turning down a more attractive trade package from the Boston Celtics. According to the report, the Bucks preferred Miami’s offer over Boston’s, even though Antetokounmpo had been open to joining three teams, Miami, Boston and Minnesota.
The report says Boston offered Milwaukee Jayson Brown and two first-round draft picks for Antetokounmpo, but the Bucks refused. Instead, they accepted Miami’s deal, which sent Antetokounmpo and Bobby Portis to the Heat. Milwaukee received Tyler Herro, Kel'el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kasparas Jakucionis, three first-round picks including the No. 13 selection, a pick swap and a second-round pick.
The outlet said Bucks owner Jimmy Haslam pushed the trade through and helped block Boston’s proposal. Haslam reportedly did not want to take the risk that Brown would want out of Milwaukee within a year after such a move. He preferred certainty, and Miami’s package gave the Bucks more guaranteed value and additional assets in return.
The report frames the move as a major NBA shock and says Miami now has the attention of top players looking for a new home. The story was published by Sport 5 on June 23, 2026, at 07:27.
