Multiple U.S. reports say the long-running saga over Giannis Antetokounmpo’s future may be nearing an end, with a trade possibly completed within the next 48 hours, before the 2026 draft. The timing matters because once the draft begins, teams will no longer be able to trade 2026 draft picks, only players and future picks, which is creating pressure to finish a deal now.
Miami is described as the leading candidate to land the former MVP, and is pushing to complete a trade before the draft. Boston is also said to be interested. In one possible scenario, the Lakers and Detroit would join a four-team deal.
The reported framework would send Antetokounmpo to Miami and Tyler Herro to Detroit. Milwaukee would receive Ron Holland, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kasparas Jakucionis, Kel'el Ware, three first-round picks from Miami and one first-round pick from Detroit.
There is also a possibility that the Lakers enter the talks and receive Ware and Isaiah Stewart, while sending Jarred Vanderbilt and a first-round pick in return. The report, published by Sport 5, says the timing is driven by the draft rules and the need to move quickly.
